Ferrari performance ‘not where we want it to be’ says Leclerc after P4 in Hungary

F1. Charles Leclerc finished fourth in Hungary, scoring 12 points, but the single-seater’s performance remains disappointing. Despite this, the team remains hopeful of climbing the standings with 11 races remaining this season.

The past few weeks have been particularly challenging for Ferrari, which had shown good performance at the beginning of the season. In Great Britain, Charles Leclerc failed to reach the Top 10, preventing him from scoring valuable points.

As he had managed to reach sixth place in qualifying, he finally finished the race this weekend in Hungary in fourth position. With 12 points scored, unfortunately it is not enough to catch up with Lando Norris who still holds second place in the drivers’ standings with a 27-point lead. As a reminder, Ferrari had decided to change the floor of their car in Spain, which had caused problems with the car. This week in Hungary, the team had finally reintroduced the old floor hoping to solve the issues, which seems to have worked.

Despite performances that have degraded over time, Charles Leclerc is delighted with his fourth place after several difficult races. “I am relatively happy, I mean, I am never happy with a P4 but if we take a step back considering the difficult last races I have had in recent weekends, we came here saying that we had to maximize the team’s points, we had to maximize the car, and I think we did that today. So, I am happy,” he said in the post-race press conference.

He would have liked a better result. On the other hand, I am not happy because the performances are not where we want them to be.

With 11 races still to go, Ferrari is still in the running to try to secure second place, even first place in the constructor championship. With 15 points behind McLaren and 67 points behind Red Bull, anything is still possible for the team if they manage to make up ground in the upcoming Grand Prix races. For now, the Monegasque driver will have to settle for fourth place and his teammate Carlos Sainz for sixth place.
